The Mesa Point Trail is located in the Boca Negra Canyon Unit of Petroglyph National Monument. This canyon is home to approximately 100 petroglyphs. The Mesa Point Trail is approximately 300 yards and climbs the side of the canyon for a view of the city of Albuquerque once hikers arrive at the top of the mesa. Hikers should walk in a counterclockwise diretion to enjoy the many petroglyphs that can be seen from the trail.

The petroglyphs are abundant and can’t be missed. Hikers should pay attention to the changing light as they walk, and a vantage point is the perfect spot to watch the petroglyphs reveal themselves on the black volcanic rock.

From the top of the mesa hikers can see views of the Sandia Mountains to the east and the Manzano Mountains to the southeast. There is no shade on the trail, but hikers can return to the trailhead where there are several shaded structures to enjoy a snack. Parking will cost $1 on weekdays and $2 on weekends.
