Long Beach Island is a coastal barrier island on the seaboard of New Jersey with a laundry list of activities to do and plenty of sites to see. Whether it is fishing, sunbathing, boogie boarding on the beach, taking in the area's history, or getting some fresh seafood, Long Beach Island has all of that and then some.

Depending on the season, charter and party boats are ready to take you out on the sea for fishing. If you aren’t into fishing, there are also dolphin and marine life cruises that include ocean sunset views if you time them right.

Back on land there are further activities, such as the Thundering Surf Water Park. If you have had enough of water for the day, the Fantasy Island Amusement Park is complete with a large and well-lit Ferris wheel, which caters to families with younger children.

After a walk through one of the amusement parks, try your hand at some mini golf on one of the three courses on the island. If the group is interested in shopping, Viking Village has beach-oriented boutiques and a fresh-as-can-be seafood store. If cooking isn’t in the cards, there are plenty of restaurants on LBI ready to serve up traditional American food or whatever the daily catch may be. There are three museums worth visiting on the island, including Barnegat Light State Park. One is dedicated to maritime history and the other covers more specific Barnegat Light area history not included in the state park museum.

Alternatively, skip it all and take in the many beaches that cover LBI. After all, beach is in the name! Parking can be hard to come by on a busy weekend, but a few minutes of searching should allow you to find an open space within a 5- to 10-minute walk to the sandy edge of the island. Whatever you are looking for, Long Beach Island has many activities and sites to take in for those with or without little ones.
