Washoe Lake State Park Campground is named for its original inhabitants, the Washoe Indians. The state park area was set aside to preserve the natural wetlands, sand dunes, and wildlife in Washoe Valley between Carson City and Reno. The park has a variety of bird nesting areas and provides excellent bird watching opportunities for photographers. Keep an eye out for pelicans, cranes and bald eagles.

The park offers day use areas for access to non-motorized boating and hang gliding. There are several nature trails and hiking opportunities as well as full equestrian access with stalls, corral, trails, wash area and equestrian campsites.

The campground is open year-round. All 49 sites are first-come, first-served, and some have RV access with sites up to 45 feet in length. No RV hookups are available, but there is an on-site RV dump station. A group site is available by reservation with space to accommodate up to 200 guests: call 775.687.4319.
