Nestled along the northern shore of Topaz Lake is the county-operated Topaz Lake Recreation Area. The park offers a variety of activities, including boating access, camping, fishing, day use, and picnicking.
While the landscape itself is pretty arid, the lake area serves as an oasis. During the summer, crowds head to the area to fish, jet ski, and waterski on the lake. During the offseason, the area can be a virtual ghost town. Park amenities include a fish cleaning station, boat ramp ($10 use fee), a trail to a viewpoint atop a rocky butte overlooking the lake, several day use areas with tables and grills, and some shade structures. Horseshoes and a group fire pit are nestled at the park's center.
A gravel road heads around the lake's eastern edge to reach various other day use areas and sandy shores.
Interestingly, the recreation area and northern portion of the lake, along with the town of Topaz Lake, are all in Nevada, while the southern portion of the lake lies in California. There are no groceries at the park, however the town of Topaz Lake - which must be driven through to the reach the park - has gas stations, restaurants and casinos.
There is a $5 day use fee upon entering the recreation area, which can be paid at the self-pay kiosk located on the park's entryway.
