South Ruby Campground sits adjacent to the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, an isolated refuge in northeastern Nevada that provides a home or stopover point to 220 species of waterfowl.
The wildlife refuge is visible from the campground, and the refuge headquarters, which also acts as a visitor center, is a short drive away.
The campground has two loops with a total of 35 sites, one of which is a double site and another that is ADA-accessible. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit with a grill, and most sites are surrounded by pinyon pine and juniper trees, offering a good amount of privacy.
Many sites also have a flat area for tent and parking spaces large enough to accommodate medium-sized RVs. There are no pull-through sites and no dump station at the campground.
Vault toilets are open year round, and trash collection and water is available during the high season. In the off-season, one loop remains open with no services aside from the vault toilets. Campsites are offered at a reduced rate during these months.
A smooth gravel road passes through the campground, and there is a 14-day limit for visiting.
