Scout Campground

Scout Camp is a rough secondary campground that is part of Fort Churchill State Historic Park. The dusty horse camp offers tent camping beneath large shade trees above the banks of the Carson River. 

With 11 spread out, unnumbered sites, each containing some combination of an uncovered picnic table and fire pit, Scout Camp makes a good camp if you're looking to get away from the crowds and the more easily-accessible Buckland Campground inside the core area of the historic park.

Scout Camp offers no amenities aside from a single vault toilet. There are river access points, a nature trail that parallels the Carson River to Buckland Station, and horse pens for overnight equestrian use.

Sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with the $15 nightly camp fee payable at the self-pay station at the campground's entrance.

Reaching Scout Camp by car requires driving down a roughly rutted dirt road for about 1 mile and should not be attempted by passenger vehicles following wet periods.
