For travelers on Minnesota Highway 61 that are visiting Grand Portage State Park or Ontario, Canada, the Susie Islands Overlook is a worthwhile stop.  The rest area is also called the Wayswaugoing Bay Overlook and is located three miles from the State Park and the Canadian border. There is plenty of parking at the rest area.

There is an overlook platform that provides sweeping views that include Wayswaugoing Bay on Lake Superior, Hat Point, and the Susie Islands. The Susie Islands (The Susies) are a group of 13 islands just south of the Canadian border. The group of islands is named for the largest island which is Susie. The three largest islands are named for members of the Falconer family who mined for copper on the islands in the early 1900’s. On a clear day Isle Royale can be seen in the distance.  In addition to scenic views, this rest area has restrooms, picnic tables, and informational panels about the area.
