Positioned across a few bluffs overlooking the lake, South Toledo Bend State Park has many great vantage points looking out over the Toledo Bend Reservoir. South Toledo Bend is one of the newest additions to the Louisiana State Park system. The state park is home to a campground with 60 campsites, five of which are some of the best primitive tent campsites that you’ll find in a Louisiana State Park. The primitive sites are situated up on a bluff overlooking the scenic reservoir.
If you’re camping at the nationally recognized South Toledo Bend State Park, try to get out and enjoy all that the park has to offer. The visitor center is a really beautiful building that’s located at the end of Soaring Drive. Inside you’ll find interactive information outlets for children and adults alike. This building is quite impressive. The attached deck has a couple of tables where visitors can sit, relax and enjoy a good view of the lake. The visitor center can also be booked for group events such as meetings, family reunions or weddings.
Take a stroll on the Lakeview Hiking Trail that crosses a finger of the reservoir on an elevated boardwalk. People are welcome to fish from directly from the boardwalk. If you approach quietly, you may be lucky enough to see some wildlife on the banks of the lake. Bald eagles are commonly sighted in South Toledo Bend State Park, as is indicated by the park's street names.
Other activities of the state park include OHV riding, hiking, cycling, birding, and fishing. The state park has a two-lane boat ramp for easy access to the water. The lake hosts national bass fishing tournaments, so you know the fishing is good here!
