Sam Houston Jones State Park is a 1,087-acre park with a diverse selection of opportunities. The landscape is in the middle of a pine and hardwood forest, and there are numerous lagoons with scenic cypress trees along the banks of the slow moving Calcasieu River that forms three edges of the park. Boat launches are available for boaters to get on the water, and boat rentals are available through the park.

Several hiking trails, including the 2-mile scenic Riverwalk Trail, the 1.25-mile meandering Stagecoach Trail, and the 3.5-mile Longleaf Pine Trail branch out throughout the park. Hikers will have the opportunity to see some of the 200 species of birds that migrate through the park annually along with the mammals who reside around the rivers and swamps.

Two campgrounds and rental cabins are spread throughout the park and accommodate a variety of overnight needs. Features in the park include an amphitheater perched over a wetlands lagoon, playgrounds, and plenty of picnic tables and grills, including a covered pavilion. The Bob Rodgers Memorial 18-hole Disc Golf Course winds its way though a forested portion of the park, and there are lines set up for beginner through advanced levels. The park's looping circuitous roads are also popular for cyclists and joggers.

Park entrance is $3 per person. The park is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily with the park gates locking for the night at 9 p.m. Pets are allowed and must be leashed. Additional information can be found here or by calling 337.855.2665.
