Alturas Lake is an alpine lake located just over 20 miles south of Stanley, Idaho, in the Sawtooth Mountains. It is a bit smaller than it's northern neighbor, Redfish Lake, but it has plenty of recreation opportunities and fewer crowds.
Altruas Lake Inlet Campground is home to 28 large, nonelectric sites including eight double sites. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire pit. Firewood is available from the host should you need it. Sites can be reserved online June through September.
The day use area and beach are walking distance from every campsite. It's the perfect place to spend your days relaxing in the sun, fishing, waterskiing, kayaking, swimming or just picnicking by the lake. Be sure to bring your bug repellant or netting as the mosquitoes get quiet thick in the evening.
If you'd like to launch a boat while staying at Altruas Lake, head to Smokey Bear Campground for the public boat launch and trailer parking. Though there is no dock at the Inlet Campground, the beach is a great spot to pick-up and drop-off tubers or waterskiers.
Please note that you're camping in bear country. This means you need to secure all your food, cooking utensils, and garbage in your car or the secure dumpsters whenever you are not in your campsite.
