Kuilei Cliffs, or Diamond Head Beach Park, is a lesser known beach located just outside of Waikīkī, on the lower flanks of Diamond Head Crater. In the 19th century, sailors named this area after supposed diamond crystals that were found in the cliffs. It was later determined that the crystals were common calcite rather than precious gems, but the name stuck.

Consistent shorebreak means local surfers make up the bulk of the visitors. The beach itself can be small, depending on whether or not the tide is high, but it boasts significantly more solitude. The shore and water can also be rocky, as a reef makes up the ledge that runs along the coast. There is usually plenty of parking in the pullouts along Diamond Head Road, around the lighthouse, and before the neighborhood houses begin. The view of the ocean from these cliffs alone is wonderful, especially around sunset when the colors shift to gold, orange, and pink. Look up and behind to see the summit of Diamond Head Crater and the concrete bunkers lining its ridge. Just south of the lighthouse is a winding paved path that leads down from the parking area to the beach below. Take a stroll along the water's edge or join the friendly surfing community out on the waves. Be careful entering the water though, as the reef extends into the shallows, making footing unstable and potentially hazardous in certain areas.
