Holoholokai Beach Park

Holoholokai Beach Park, located about 25 miles north of Kailua-Kona, is a small beach park with a unique variety of features.

The beach has a complex reef offering an amazing snorkeling or diving opportunity. However the rough rocky shore can make entry tricky, especially at low tide. The beach is more popular for those just coming out to take a walk along the shore. The beach itself is a mix of black and white stone - the black from the lava rock making up the shoreline, the white from the coral at the reef. 

Walking from the parking lot past a few shaded picnic benches and passing through a narrow path that emerges on the beach, visitors will notice a rocky shore with emerald waters rolling up against it. Dirt footpaths head in either direction, though turning north will lead you away from the resort and beach park crowds. Sea turtles are known to visit the beach often, particularly around sunset.

A shaded lawn area has tables and outdoor showers. At the opposite side of the parking lot at the trailhead to the Malama Trail, a hike that leads to one of the largest petroglyph galleries in the Pacific.

There are bathrooms and water located at the parking area, where there are about 30 parking spots, however these have a tendency to fill up during mid-day. To reach the small beach park, head toward the Fairmont Orchid Hawaii Resort, however turn north following the signs to the beach park before actually reaching the resort buildings.

Holoholokai Beach Park is open from 6:30am to 6:30pm daily.
