'Anaeho'omalu Bay / A-Bay Beach

The official name for this bay is a mouthful. The beach facing 'Anaeho'omalu Bay is technically called Waikoloa Beach, but it is more commonly referred to as A-Bay, and it is easily one of the most popular beaches on the Big Island's Kona side. It is a narrow sliver of sand backed by a stone wall that separates 'Anaeho'omalu Bay from the Ku'u Ali'i fishpond. The scene is very much family oriented: The beach slopes gently into the ocean, the bay itself is very protected by an offshore reef, showers and restrooms are close by, and the beach is connected to the Waikoloa Beach Marriott. A-Bay is an easy place to lay out and forget what ails you, and it's a great choice if you will be bringing children who are just getting used to the water. There are no lifeguards here, but the scene is is so calm and predictable that attentive parents shouldn't have an issue. Catch a sunset here and you won't soon forget it.

Groves of towering palm trees sit at either end of the beach and provide some shade options, but on the main beach it is all sea and sun. Showers and restrooms are at the south end near the parking area. If you want to rent a kayak or pedal boat or try some yoga, check out the stands toward the center of the beach. To the north you'll find a volleyball net and a modest exercise area. 

Note that pets are not allowed at A-Bay.
