Well aware of what draws travelers to the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, the town of Telluride has its own campground within city limits. Appropriately called the Town Park Campground, it offers 28 vehicle sites spacious enough for RVs and five walk-in sites just a short walk from downtown Telluride and the dizzying array of outdoor options available within the canyon. Within striking distance of the campground: the Sneffels Highline, Bridal Veil Falls, the Via Ferrata, and many, many more options. While it doesn’t provide hookups of any kind, it does provide coin-operated showers and access to recreation in the adjacent Town Park.
Festivals are held at the the Town Park throughout the summer, so be certain to plan for crowds should the date coincide with any of these popular events. Such weekends are an enormous draw for the campground, and attendees will send “scouts" as much as a day in advance to stake out a campsite.
Campsites along Bear Creek are the most desirable, including the walk-in sites. Be advised that Telluride is notorious for bear activity, and bears are known to dive through improperly secured dumpsters in downtown in search of a snack. Be sure to keep food in bear-secure containers!
