Mueller State Park encompasses 5,000 acres of aspen and pine forest west of Pikes Peak, an all-year outdoor destination offering more than 36 miles of trails that are open to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. The park is home to abundant Rocky Mountain wildlife, including elk, black bear, hawks, and mule deer.

At its heart, the Mueller State Park Campground is an excellent staging ground for adventures. Like the park, it is open year round, and it offers 119 campsites, including three fully furnished cabins for rent, and group campsites available by reservation only. Spacious and private, the campsites here are nestled amid stands of spruce, fir, and aspen. Its 94 tent and RV sites are dispersed across five spurs of Wapiti Road. Each offers a picnic table, bear box, fire ring, electrical hookups, and most provide a parking loop that makes it easier to navigate in large vehicles, such as RVs. Walk-in sites are located along two trails in the northern half of the park; all of them offer tent pads, and some even have a bit of a view of the surrounding mountains. Each of the campground’s three cabins, Pine Cabin, Spruce Cabin, and Ponderosa Cabin, accommodates four, six, and eight guests respectively in a fully furnished space, including a full-service kitchen, linens, and a full bathroom. Pets are not allowed.

Mueller State Park Campground is well-developed and maintained, offering comfortable camping facilities with restrooms and showers, and coin-operated laundry. In addition, a nearby playground structure offers families with children a place to play, and the campground’s amphitheater hosts ranger-led programs during the summer.

Note: Some campground loops are closed during the fall and winter months; the summer camping season extends from May to September. Water is also seasonally available. Check with Colorado Parks and Wildlife for the current status. Pets are allowed in the campground, the day use picnic area, and along roads, but not on the trails.
