The Taylor River is short in length but offers massive recreation opportunities in its canyon between Gunnison and Crested Butte. There are several campgrounds in the canyon and near Taylor Park Lake, any of  which makes a great base camp to explore this area. Granite Campground is a tiny, tents-only campground that is the first one reached when traveling up County Road 742 from Almont. The parking area is right off the road and has plenty of room for lots of vehicles. Rock climbing and fishing are popular in this area, so there might be some day use vehicles.

The six campsites are nicely spaced and very private. All sites are along the river, and the sound will help drown out the noise from the road, which is mostly non-existent at night anyway. The sites have fire rings and picnic tables and are all first-come, first-served.
