Centennial and Lovers Lane Loop is a short and easy hike located in Auckland Domain. This trail is paved and explores the northwest section of the park. This loop is 1.4 miles long and gains 213 feet of elevation.
This hike begins off of Nicholls Lane just outside of Auckland Domain. Auckland Domain is the oldest park in Auckland and is also known as Pukekawa by the Maori people. There is a parking ramp available here. The current price is 12 NZD for 12 hours. Begin hiking south up a set of stairs. Stay on this paved path through trees for about 0.1 miles before turning right onto a sidewalk along Lower Domain Drive. Continue on the sidewalk for 0.1 miles before turning left on Grafton Mews. 0.1 miles later, you will come to another paid parking area. Here, you will turn left and follow signs for Centennial Walkway.
As you walk along Centennial Walkway, there will be many benches along the way to stop and rest. There are also a few sculptures just off the trail. This trail also passes by many mature trees. After 0.3 miles on the Centennial Walkway, you will encounter Domain Drive. Cross the road and spot a small pond. Head right to travel counterclockwise. From here, you will also be able to see Auckland Domain Wintergardens. This is a great place to visit and admire beautiful flowers.
After you have encircled the pond, cross the road and begin hiking on Lovers Lane. After 0.3 miles on Lovers Lane, you will come to Lower Domain Drive. Go left here. Continue for 0.1 miles before encountering the 0.1 mile trail back to the trailhead.
Centennial and Lovers Lane Loop is open year-round. The only fees associated with this hike are for parking. Dogs are allowed in Auckland Domain, but they must be on a leash at all times. Centennial and Lovers Lane Loop is a nice way to enjoy a bit of nature in the city of Auckland.
