Mono Lake County Park is a small public park located near Highway 395 along Mono Lake's northwestern shore. It sees far fewer visitors than the more popular lake viewpoint destinations of the Mono Lake Old Marina and the South Tufa area with the Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve.
Containing a large lawn and picnic area, playground, bathrooms, covered gazebo with interpretive signage, and a boardwalk path leading to a viewpoint near the lakeshore, Mono Lake County Park has the feel of a quiet community park area that happens to have surreal views over the lake, as well as the scenic Sierra Nevada mountains that touch down just a few hundred yards away.
Along the boardwalk path, benches and interpretive signage providing information on former lake levels and bird species that can frequently be seen are spaced along the path. Tufa formations line the trail, as well as standing in the reed brush nearby. While the trail doesn't actually access the lakeshore, it comes to an end at a point that offers panoramic views of the lake area and surrounding landscape.
There is a suggested donation of $2 for the upkeep of the park payable to metal boxes along the boardwalk area.
While leashedpets are permitted in the county park facilities (playground and picnic areas), no pets are allowed in the State Natural Reserve area which includes the boardwalk trail.
