Lagoon Creek Beach

Lagoon Creek Beach is a small beach directly off of Highway 101 on the southern edge of False Klamath Cove. The location makes this beach great for a quick break from traveling. Nearby trails offer a hike though the forest and to a peak overlooking the cove. During low tides the ocean recedes from the rock wall along the highway and allows visitors to walk to Wilson Creek Beach. 

False Klamath Cove opens up in front of Lagoon Creek Beach. Native American legend has it that the Klamath River once flowed out into the ocean here rather than its present location a few miles south. For many years this location between Lagoon Creek and Wilson Creek marked the border between the Yurok and Tolowa tribal lands. The name for the cove likely comes from sailors being commonly fooled into believing it is the real Klamath Cove and thus sailing into it, only to find they are in the wrong location.
