The Catalina Aerial Adventure is a collection of fun and physical outdoor courses of varying levels of difficulty built into the eucalyptus trees at the Descanso recreation area. Each course is made up of a series of obstacles and elements - including climbing nets, balance platforms, zip lines, ladders, swings and auto-belay jumps - that wrap and meander through the grove of trees, with their difficulty levels ranging from easy to advanced.
Visitors are first introduced to guides, who explain the course, outfit visitors in protecting gear, and offer a short lesson in how to navigate obstacles while remaining clipped into the harnessed safety system. Once demonstrating their use of the safety gear, visitors are then able to choose their courses, typically completing multiple of them during the allotted time. The courses sit about 35 feet above the ground in the trees, and are created to be fun and adventurous, all while keeping visitors tethered to a safety line at all times.
The Aerial Adventure tour is at the Descanso Beach area, walking distance from Avalon. This area is a hub of tours and recreational opportunities, and all amenities including bathrooms, food, lockers, and vendors are located near the course's welcome area.
Aerial Adventure tours require the ability to navigate obstacles and can be somewhere physical (leather gloves are available for rent at the info desk, and might be a good idea as we had a couple calluses on our hands the following day), so this one is probably not the best for small children.
Reservations can be made through the Catalina Island Company at this web page or by calling 877-778-8322.
