City of South Lake Tahoe’s Campground by the Lake is a large campground located just across the street from Lake Tahoe and El Dorado Beach, and within walking distance of many shops, eateries and attractions of South Lake Tahoe. The campground is open seasonally, usually April through October. Click here for information about reservations.
Campground by the Lake offers 178 campsites. Although privacy is somewhat lacking, the sites are nice and well shaded. The urban setting of this campground may be a drawback for many, and traffic noise from Lake Tahoe Boulevard is a constant.
A variety of campsites are available including those with electric and water hookups, electric only, as well as non-hookup sites. All campsites have a picnic table, fire ring and BBQ grill. There are also a handful of tent-cabin sites. These are somewhat similar to a yurt and furnished with a table, chairs and beds. One standard cabin is available as well. Rates vary significantly depending upon which site is selected.
The campground has restrooms and showers, a dump station and WiFi. Additionally, campers will find a recreation and swim complex, playground, baseball fields, ice arena, and paved bike trails nearby.
