Buttercup is a single group site tucked into the national forest on the edge of the town of Big Bear. It is right next to Pineknot Campground and Snow Summit Ski Resort. The camp is not open in winter, but Snow Summit is open all year for hiking, mountain biking, and a scenic chairlift. Big Bear Lake is nearby as well, offering plenty of recreation opportunities during the warmer months.
The campsite accommodates up to 40 people. Beneath the tall, shady pines are picnic tables, grills, fire rings, and plenty of room for vehicles and tents. Pit toilets and drinking water are included.
The site is accessed by a well-maintained dirt road and is very secluded. However, a quiet neighborhood lies a short distance through the trees, so please have respect for local residents and for the forest.
Note: Reservations are required for Buttercup Group Camp, which is typically open from mid-May through mid-October. Call 877.444.6777 for specific seasonal dates.
