Burnt Rancheria Campground is nestled in a forest of pines and oaks near the peak of Laguna Mountain. It is usually open from April through late October, but the exact dates vary annually, so it is best to check beforehand.
Of the 109 available sites, seven are fully accessible and 48 are suitable for RVs. There are seven loops in total, and each has at least one restroom facility and potable water nearby. In addition, there are coin-operated showers available. Each site is equipped with a parking space, fire pit, picnic table, and several flat areas to pick from to set up camp. Firewood is available for purchase as well.
During the summer, the campground offers children’s activities, guided hikes, and campfire programs led by rangers. On select Friday and Saturday nights, the San Diego State University Observatory hosts free “Star Parties” within Laguna Mountain Recreation Area. With little to no light pollution nearby, this area is one of the best for stargazing in southern California.
Burnt Rancheria Campground has many hiking opportunities nearby. The Desert View Trail is a family-friendly hike with panoramic views that begins within the campground. The Desert View Trail also provides easy access to the Pacific Crest Trail. Other nearby trails within Laguna Mountain Recreation Area include Monument Peak and Foster Point.
