Basecamp Tahoe South

Basecamp Tahoe South takes the recreational, wild, and adventurous opportunities of the South Lake Tahoe and Northern Sierra area and embodies them in the form of a hotel that is ideal for those looking to recover from a day on the trails or mountain slopes, or for those just looking to check into a spot with a more themed and social atmosphere than your typical lodging fare.

Upon checking in, guests are given maps to the hotel that include the available amenities along with lists of local winter sports, mountain-biking, hiking, paddling and water sports options. A large marker board at the front desk details ongoing events that are available to guests, such as weekly yoga on the hotel's rooftop decks or trivia and nightly music in the beer garden attached to the hotel.

Sitting on the state line between California and Nevada, Basecamp Tahoe South is one block away from the casinos, two blocks away from Heavenly Village and access to the ski resort, and three blocks from the nearest beach on Lake Tahoe. Rooms at the hotel range from typical king, queen, or full rooms to themed selections: "The Great Indoors" rooms have a king bed beneath a canopy tent along with an electric indoor bonfire and picnic bench, family-friendly rooms have additional bunk beds, and "Explorer" rooms are geared toward groups. Pet-friendly rooms are available as well.

Aside from this, the appeal is in the amenities. The beer garden is a large bar with an indoor seating area and an outdoor area with bench swings and tables set beside fireplaces, ping pong tables and corn hole, and it features nightly live music. The Beer Garden is open to the public and invites a more outgoing set of younger locals who add to the bar's genial and social atmosphere. Additionally, a more intimate bar is located in the lobby and is restricted for the use of guests only, providing a quieter option. Two hot tubs, one of which is on the roof, sit on the property, and there are multiple decks with fire places, a couple of which have views of the ski trails at Heavenly. 

Bike rentals are available for an additional fee, and hotel staff seem to be knowledgeable about local recreational opportunities. Desolation Brewery, located beside the beer garden, also compliments the other offerings of the hotel.

Prices generally range from $90 to $135 during off-peak times and $120 to $190 during peak times. Specific amenities appear to vary by season.
