Aspen Campground is a Forest Service run campground set in a dense aspen grove along Lee Vining Creek. At 7500' in elevation, it is much lower than many of the other campgrounds outside of Yosemite National Park's eastern entrance gate.
The campground has 48 sites, all filled on a first come, first serve basis. The sites are basic, with only a table, fire pit and food locker at each. There are no RV hook ups here. In fact RVs and larger trailers would be incredibly challenged attempting to drive into the campground. The Forest Service states that sites can accommodate up to a 40' total vehicle length.
Sites are plotted out along a graded gravel road that meanders beneath the trees.
There were no bathroom buildings at the campground; instead clusters of outhouses serve the camp. Potable water is available at several spigots throughout the campground. Lee Vining Creek runs alongside some of the sites, providing a nice sound to your camping experience.
Campers are asked to pay cash at the info sign at the entrance. There is a 14 day limit on camping.
Highway 120 closes seasonally at the first stay, and remains closed until warmer seasonal conditions return - determining the season for Aspen Campground.
