Schuerman Vista is a lesser known trail in Sedona that offers fantastic views with surprisingly few crowds. The hike itself may not be quite as exciting as some others in the area, but the viewpoint at the end offers vistas that are well worth it. In addition, the Schuerman Mountain Trail can be followed further out along the mesa top for a chance to truly get away from any crowds.
The small trailhead is located to the side of Red Rock High School. Begin hiking on the Schuerman Mountain Trail as it heads toward the hills. Before long you’ll be gaining elevation as the trail climbs up the side of Schuerman Mountain.
At the top of the climb you’ll come to a junction. The true summit of Schuerman Mountain lies to the right -- the Schuerman Mountain Trail continues straight ahead across the mesa, and the Schuerman Mountain Vista Trail takes off to the left. Turn Left.
Continue along the relatively flat trail until you reach the vista. The views from here are truly fantastic! Many red rock formations can be seen to the east and southeast, prominent Capitol Butte and Coffee Pot Rock can be seen to the north, and Table Top Mountain & Sedona Airport are visible in the near distance.
After enjoying the views from Schuerman Vista, turn around and return the way you came back to the trailhead.
