Schoolhouse Campground

Schoolhouse Campground is a Forest Service campground on the shores of Roosevelt Lake.

The 38 site campground sits on a flat plateau surrounded by mid-elevation desert. Camp sites are basic, with each having a shaded picnic bench and fire ring. There are a few trees spread throughout the campground, but they are thin, so there isn't much separating campers from neighboring sites.

The campground does have access to a boat ramp, and with Roosevelt Lake being the largest year round lake in the central area of the state, much of the attraction of Schoolhouse Campground is getting on the water. Views of saguaro cacti and the surrounding mountains envelope the campground. There are hiking trails throughout the area as well so campers can go on a short walk to get away from the crowds.

Normal camp sites are $20 per night, while double sites are $40 per night. There are no sites with hook ups available. Campers can self pay upon entering.

Reservations are available through Recreation.gov on odd numbered sites from November 1st to April 30th each year. Everything else is first come, first served. Schoolhouse Campground has several barrier-free camp sites to accommodate those with accessibility needs.

For the past couple of years, there has been no running water available in the campground - currently outhouses have replaced the bathrooms and campers must bring all of their own water.
