Manzanita Campground is one of several campgrounds on Highway 89A in the Oak Creek Canyon, as well as the closest Forest Service operated campground to Sedona. Manzanita is a small and very cozy campground, with 19 densely packed tent sites in a beautiful, well-shaded plain below the highway on the shores of Oak Creek. In fact, the majority of the sites have direct access to the creek itself. Combined with the serenity of the area and the proximity of Manzanita to Sedona, it is no wonder why this campground is busy all summer long, and for much of the year in general.
From the entrance of the campground, a small parallel-parking area with five spots serves sites 11 through 15. Going left of these sites leads to sites 16 through 19, then 1 through 7 as it loops back to the entrance. Going right is a dead end parking area for sites 8, 9, and 10. Unlike other areas in and around Sedona, there is no day use facility anywhere in Manzanita Campground. As far as reservations are concerned, about half of the sites can be reserved, while the other half are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and are occupied more often than not, especially on summer weekends. The reservable sites are typically reserved months in advance, so be sure to plan ahead!
