Dead Horse Ranch Campground

There are not a lot of options for camping in the Sedona area, particularly for campers with RVs. There are the primitive campgrounds up the Oak Creek Canyon that only accommodate smaller vehicles, and there are a few RV parks in Cottonwood and Sedona that don’t offer a real outdoor experience. A wonderful compromise is the great (and popular) campground at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. Close to all the outdoor adventures that Sedona offers and having many recreational options right in the park, this is a great option to consider.

The campground is widely dispersed, with three RV/tent loops, one tent-only loop and a group/overflow loop, all with separate entrances. The tent loop and two of the RV/tent loops (Blackhawk, Cooper's Hawk and Red-tailed Hawk) are up on a hill and have some nice views of the valley below. Quail Loop is more wooded and shady but has no views. There are showers in every loop and flush toilets. This is a very nicely laid out campground, with decent-sized sites and decent space between sites. The upper loops are on a hill overlooking the town of Cottonwood and the Verde Valley beyond, so the views from some campsites are very nice, particularly at night. As nice as this campground is, it is also very much in demand. During the busy months it is typically full every night. Reservations months in advance are strongly advised.
