Apache Lake Marina and Resort is a family-owned operation under permit from Tonto National Forest. With amenities like a general store and restaurant, staying here doesn't feel like camping in the national forest, but it is still quite remote with many miles of dirt road required to reach this spot along the Apache Trail Scenic Byway.
Accommodations are all rather rustic, but comfortable. There is tent camping, RV sites with hookups, and a motel with air conditioning. The tent camping area is among shady trees and sandy shoreline right on the lake. There are scattered picnic tables and fire rings, but no designated sites. Just find a spot that suits you and settle down. Water, restrooms, and trash cans are available nearby.
Campers and day users can take advantage of the paved boat ramp, boat rentals, fishing cove, short trails at the water's edge, and of course the vast surface of Apache Lake for paddling, boating, swimming, and fishing. Any use requires an $8 daily recreation pass from Tonto National Forest as well as a fee to use these privately owned facilities at the resort. Day use or tent camping is $5 per vehicle per day. RV sites are $30-35 per day.
Note: The resort has had some issues with people trashing the facilities. Help pick up trash if you find it and encourage others to minimize their impact as well.
