Rustic Cabins in Oregon via Airbnb

As the crisp, fall air begins to replace the warm, sunny days of summer, are you worried that your time sleeping outside is dwindling? While winter camping is always a viable option, we have created a list of Airbnb rentals that are far from your average hotel room.

There are plenty of campgrounds, lodges and spots to park your van for a night's stay, but we have selected seven unique Airbnb locations spread out across Oregon. So, treat yourself! Whisk back to your childhood and sleep in a giant tent, explore the enchanted forest with the ocean not far from your doorstep, or spend the night with the scent of lavender wafting in through your window. Arranged by location throughout the state, you can take advantage of Airbnb’s more uncommon sleeping arrangements, which are conveniently located near some epic trips outlined on the Outdoor Project website. 1. Portland, Oregon: The Ultimate Glamping Tent 

In this picturesque tent you can live out the Portland dream surrounded not only by chickens but also goats, rolling hills, and a fire pit. This oasis is the “perfect blend between a luxury hotel and hostel,” and it’s also in close proximity to one of Portland’s wonders: Forest Park. So post up in the tent for a few nights, and be prepared to hit the trail running!

2. Hood River, OR: Live the Lavender Farm Lifestyle 

Lavender has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, and it has been known to relieve pain, enhance blood circulation, and treat respiratory problems. You don’t need a medical reason to surround yourself with this deliriously wonderful smelling plant, however. After hiking Indian Point in the Gorge, sip an IPA from one of Hood River’s craft breweries and enjoy a delicious dinner by the Columbia. Finally, let the fresh scent of lavender soothe you into a deep sleep. 

3. Joseph, OR: The Bunkhouse 

Known as the "Alps of Oregon," The Wallowas are home to multiple outdoor activities. Nestled between mountains, Joseph is a quaint town serving as the gateway to adventure. Spend a night or two here resting up for a big backcountry ski trip or relax along the lake with a good book. With a private deck overlooking the river, The Bunkhouse is a romantic way to enjoy this magical place. 

When you’re ready to ditch the comfort of this beautiful bed, we recommend backpacking into East Moraine Lake for stunning views and an alpine swim. 

4. Nehalem, OR: Get Lost in the Forest

If you’re interested in sustainability then you cannot miss this hidden (literally) gem in Nehalem, Oregon. According to Ginger and Bringham, the cabin's owners, “Almost every piece of this tiny house was salvaged, most of it from within ten miles of where the house sits. Small details and decorations were created by local artists, even going so far that the paper in the Japanese lanterns was hand-made seven miles from [the house].” 

Nehalem is also home to a beautiful state park with ample activities. If you want to canoe, kayak, or SUP, you can go to the North Fork of the Nehalem River. At the southern base of Neahkahnie Mountain is the Nehalem Bay State Park, which is home to 5.3 miles of sandy beach. The park has 1.7 miles of paved bike paths, picnic areas, horseback riding, and rentals. We also recommend visiting Manzanita, to catch a costal sunset. 

5. Ashland, OR: The American Dream Stream 

Just a few miles from hiking and biking trails, this cozy 1973 Airstream trailer named Delta Dawn is parked on 2 private acres with a gas barbecue and an elevated patio outside its doorstep. It’s an Airstream adventure that’s fully equipped for a comfortable stay. 

While staying in Ashland, if you want a break from the Shakespeare festival or if iambic pentameter isn’t your thing, you should spend the day hiking Grizzly Peak. One of the closest hikes to Ashland, Grizzly Peak offers amazing views of Mount Shasta, Mount McLaughlin, Table Rocks, and Pilot Rock.  

6. Imnaha, OR: River Retreat

If you're in need of solitude, this rustic river retreat perched on banks of the wild and scenic Imnaha River between Hell's Canyon and the Eagle Cap Wilderness is just the place for you. Located about 30 miles from Joseph, Oregon, your neighbors may be few and far between, but don't be surprised to see elk, deer, bear, birds and the occasional cougar.

Start your day with a hike in the area or explore the nearby Wallowa Lake and Eagle Cap Wilderness. When you've had your fill of adventure, make yourself at home picking fresh vegetables from the garden and relaxing by the outdoor fire pit or cozy fireplace. 

7. Bend, OR: Log Cabin for Two

The opportunities for outdoor recreation in Bend are endless. Staying in this quaint cabin puts you minutes away from world-class mountain biking, thousands of miles of hiking trails, and a ski resort and trails in the winter months. Located just  20 minutes outside of Bend, you'll get the best of both the quiet forest and the bustling city.
