The Rim Rock Natural Area is a narrow corridor alongside Skyliners Road. The West Bend Trail runs through the corridor and is the main means of exploration. The Rim Rock area is nice, but the nearby road noise is an unfortunate nuisance.

There are several access points to the Natural Area. Nearby neighborhoods include NorthWest Crossing, Skyliner Summit and the Highlands at Broken Top. Park and find your way to the the trail!

Once on the West Bend Trail, continue following it through the natural area. You’ll pass through some enjoyable pine forest as you hike or bike along the mellow paved pathway. There is also a neat underpass that has been painted with murals.

The West Bend Trail itself can be hiked for over 3 miles. Through the Rim Rock Natural Area the trail is paved, but it turns to natural surfaces later on.

The West Bend Trail can be hiked all the way to Phil’s Trailhead within the Deschutes National Forest. From here many miles of additional trails can be accessed.
