Diamond Lake to Odell Lake is a 66.5-mile trek situated in the picturesque Umpqua National Forest, located southeast of Eugene, Oregon. The adventure begins at the Howlock Trailhead, taking the Summit Rock Trail until it converges with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). From there, the path heads north along the PCT all the way to Odell Lake, weaving through the tranquil pine forests and past the scenic alpine meadows that are characteristic of this region.

The route offers gentle terrain and is lined with a mix of hemlock, lodgepole, and western white pine trees, alongside stands of fir. The understory is adorned with alpine flowers, huckleberries, and dwarf manzanita, providing bursts of color and varied texture to the journey.

A defining feature of the hike is Mount Thielsen. This striking, jagged peak of the southern Cascade Range is unmissable as it juts 9,182 feet into the sky. The trail grants hikers a close encounter, skirting around the mountain's western base and offering stunning perspectives of its spire-like summit.

Wildlife is abundant in this area, with the forests and meadows providing habitats for black-tailed and mule deer, elk, black bears, marmots, rabbits, squirrels, pine martens, foxes, and pikas. Birdwatchers can also delight in the presence of Clark's nutcrackers and Oregon jays, among others.
