Middle Marsh Dike is one of a short succession of easy walking paths within the Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge.

At only 1 mile out-and-back, the path traces a double track - closed to vehicles aside from authorized refuge vehicles - as it crosses a desert pond. Either side offers views of the rocky hills surrounding the area, and you'll likely find few, if any, other people in the area given the remote location.

What you'll likely hear is wind in the trees, and frogs leaping into the water as you proceed along the edges of the ponds.

Hunting is permitted in the refuge on various days of the week, so those looking for a peaceful walk might aim to avoid these days. Unfortunately spent shotgun shells can be found littering the trail.

Upon reaching the base of the hills on the opposite side of the ponds, the gravel path passes a large tree before the trail becomes a shadeless double track. Those looking for a shorter hike may use this as a good opportunity to turn around and retrace their route to the trailhead. Otherise, it's also possible to continue north and use the WHIN Dike Trail to make a loop back to the starting point.

There are no amenities here however water and bathrooms are available at the Refuge Visitor Center a little over a mile away.
