Storsæterfossen waterfall is a popular hiking destination in Geiranger given the short hike and experience of being able to walk behind a waterfall. The hike to the Storsæterfossen begins at Westerås, reachable by a narrow gravel road. The road ends in a small parking lot. There are two routes to the waterfall: one follows the gravel road back about 50 meters and starts up a tractor road through hayfields and the other begins near the end of the parking lot and is shorter and steeper. Eventually these trails meet prior to reaching the waterfall.

Following the path along the tractor road, the path continues until a small gate at the edge of the forest. Shortly after going through the gate, the trail becomes a path of hundreds of stone stairs that were completed in 2014 by Sherpas from Nepal. The trail climbs the stone stairs for the majority of the hike, eventually meeting up with the other route. The trail becomes flat as it nears the waterfall, with a view of the waterfall from the trail before reaching the falls area.

Upon reaching the falls area, there is a grassy plateau just above the falls with views of the river upstream and the surrounding mountains. There is a path that goes down to beneath Storsæterfossen that has a guardrail, but behind the falls will be wet and slippery. Return along the same trail or take the steeper, shorter trail back to the parking lot. Parking is free, and the Westerås Farm that shares a parking lot with the trailhead has a restaurant and accommodations.
