One of the few true sandy beaches on Caye Caulker, Koko King Beach, offers a fun, resort-like vibe for everyone to enjoy. The beach is located on the north side of the “split.” The island has been split in two by two major hurricanes over the years. There is no road between the two, so water is the only way to travel. Koko King offers a free water taxi, which picks people up every hour at the dock at the end of Calle de Sol Road.
There may be a day use fee of around $10BZ ($5 U.S.) — it depends on the season and what you want to use while there. Onsite amenities include a bar, restaurant, pool, lounge chairs with shades, hammocks and inner tubes.
The north side of Caye Caulker is less-inhabited and has considerably less infrastructure. Going past the Koko King Beach area, look for the main “road” to explore the island. There’s not much to find except for birds, lizards and lots of mosquitoes. But it’s interesting to see the mangrove trees and what the untouched part of the island looks like.
At night the beach and restaurant turns in to a dance club of sorts. If that doesn't sound appealing, be sure to catch the water taxi back to the main island before dusk.
