Sit back, relax, and enjoy the island life at Colinda Cabanas. Located on the small island of Caye Caulker, these beach cabanas are a great home base for exploring the turquoise waters just beyond the front door. Located on the south end of the island where it’s a little quieter, the beachside lodging is the perfect spot to grab a good book, some sunscreen, and relax in one of the lounge chairs or swaying hammocks in the ocean breeze.

If you’re looking for something more adventurous, borrow a kayak or bike (included with the room) and explore the island. Stingrays, sea birds, crabs, and other wildlife can be easily seen all over. The sunrise can be seen from the private dock, and the sunset is in full view after just a short walk to the other side of the island. For those wanting a sandy beach, head north to the “split,” where the island has been naturally split in two by past storms. This area is popular with locals and tourists alike looking for a place to swim and enjoy the sand. Or take the small water taxi over to the north side of the island to Koko King Beach. Snorkeling, diving, and fishing excursions depart from the island daily, as do inland adventures to places like Tikal National Park or Cahal Pech Archaeological Site.

The staff onsite is friendly and able to share good tips on where to eat and which excursions to do. Reservations can be made in advance. Walk-in bookings are sometimes available, but they are cash only (there are a few ATM’s on the island if needed). Discounts are available for longer stays or during the low season. It’s best to check their website for specials and availability.

Getting to Caye Caulker can be an adventure itself. Water taxis depart multiple times a day from Belize City and San Pedro. Flying is another option, and though it may cost a little more, the quick flight on a small plane provides a different and beautiful perspective of the islands.
