The Oregon Coast is a beautiful part of the Pacific Northwest and a perfect for wildlife watching. The Lagoon Loop Trail located within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, is no exception.
This short, flat, easy 1-mile loop around the lagoon provides ample opportunities to view birds, river otters and other wildlife, while taking in the beauty of the Oregon coastal environment. The trail borders the campground and in some sections connects to a few of the campsites. There are benches, interpretive signs, and boardwalks to make viewing easier. Part of the trail is ADA accessible from the north trailhead. The lagoon is stocked in late winter and early spring for fishing, which also increases the amount of wildlife in the area. Be sure to bring binoculars or a spotting scope.
A small parking area for the trail is located within the Lagoon Campground, where there are restrooms and potable water.
The Lagoon Loop Trail is located along the Siltcoos Access Road, which has numerous opportunities for hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, and beach access. This area of the Oregon coast is very popular with off highway vehicles (OHV) and can be exceptionally busy during the summer season.
