Ashford Mill

A 45-mile drive south along the scenic Badwater Basin from Furnace Creek leads to the Ashford Mill Ruins. Established in 1914, this site was initially built by the Ashford brothers to process the gold that came out of the Treasure Mine just 5 miles away in the Amargosa Mountains. 

The site is very much in ruins and consists of just a few walls and the foundation for another structure. It appears this building was fabricated from the local rock and earth, a construction strategy that probably led to they building's demise. The parking lot has restrooms and a couple of picnic tables if you wish to stop for lunch.

The drive down here is quite beautiful, though watch for coyotes that wander on to the road. Apparently they have figured out how to stop cars and beg for food.
