A few miles south of Yachats you'll find Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint, named for the Roman god of the sea. The park actually encompasses four different pullouts along Highway 101. Each wayside has unique strengths, including the great tide pools at Strawberry Hill; Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint is the largest of the four, and it has the most amenities.
Beach access is located next to Cummins Creek, giving you the opportunity to stroll along the beach looking for agates or to hike upstream and explore the dense coastal forests of western hemlock, Douglas fir, and old-growth Sitka spruce. Wildlife is plentiful, and you'll want your binoculars to watch for whales, seals, and a variety of sea birds. At the south end of the beach there is a natural cave and some tide pools to investigate during low tide. Wayside amenities include a large parking area, restrooms, picnic tables, and benches.
Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint is part of the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Marine Protected Areas. This means that there are specific prohibitions against fishing and the harvesting of fish, invertebrates, and seaweed.
