Arnott’s Lodge is situated in a quiet neighborhood of Hilo, approximately 3 miles from downtown historic Hilo. Arnott’s offers an inexpensive option for those wishing to explore the eastern side of the Big Island, but it also offers amenities such free Wi-Fi, laundry, iPad use, and cable TV. Just minutes away from the waterfalls and beaches of Hilo, Arnott’s is also less than an hour's drive from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and the thermal pools of Puna. Guests have a variety of options for their overnight stay ranging from camping for $16 to dormitory beds starting at $32 and a variety of different suites with the most expensive costing $220 a night and sleeping up to six. The dormitories are separated by gender, and both include a complete kitchen. The covered patio area provides the perfect place for unwinding after a day of adventures, sharing meals, and meeting other travelers. However, it is not recommended you come to the lodge expecting to find travel companions if you do not have transportation; solo travelers accustomed to arriving at hostels and finding people with whom to car-share might find the lodge sleepier than most traditional hostels. Those traveling with families or with planned itineraries, however, will appreciate the quiet, mellow atmosphere.
The lodge is also just 100 yards away from public shoreline access, and it is within walking distance or a short drive you’ll find Onekahaha Beach Park, Chock’s Beach, Carlsmith Beach Park, and Richardson’s Beach Park. You can rent bikes for $10 a day and visit the beaches down the road, or venture into Hilo and visit restaurants, the bustling farmer’s market, or Rainbow Falls and Waiale Falls. Arnott’s also offers a variety of adventure trips, including Mauna Kea Summit and Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park tours.
