This loop hike summits the back of Mount Tammany and descends along the front shoulder of the mountain.  This area is very crowded on weekends.  From the first parking area along the west bound service road to the Delaware Water Gap ranger station, enter the forest from the west end of the lot.  This traverses to the next parking lot.  Traveleast in the lot to pick up the Appalachian Trail (AT white markers).  At about 3/4 of a mile the AT continues up hill on the left.  The trail on the right is the Dunnfield Creek Trail.  Follow this trail past some small waterfalls and swimming holes to a trail junction with the Blue Dot trail. Turn right onto the Blue Dot trail.

The Blue Dot trail is very steep and rocky.  After two miles, the trail reaches the Mount Tammany ridge and the Mount Tammany fire road (red dot markers).  Turn right here and continue to several good viewpoints of the Delaware Water Gap, Delaware River and Mount Minsi in Pennsylvania.  The descent is very steep and more rocky the the ascent on the Blue Dot trail.  It is about 1.75 miles back to the parking lot.
