Meramec State Park is a large park area located a short distance away from the St. Louis area.
The park's campground is large, and caters to all camping types - RVs, cars, and tent campers. Set near the Meramec River, camping options are divided into several areas, with cabins and alternate lodgings having its own place along the road, and tent and car camping concentrated around the Fisher Cave area at the end of the paved road.
With all sites set in a relative clearing in the trees, the park does their best job to pack the numerous sites into the single area, so during peak travel seasons, visitors may not get to enjoy too much privacy from their neighbors. This is clearest in the RV section, where cement slabs run parallel to each other across the length of the lawn.
Tent and car campers each get a bit more space, and will find themselves beneath the trees.
The campground has main bathhouses that have free showers, along with numerous satellite bathroom buildings spread throughout. There are also playgrounds and river access points within walking distance.
Camp sites start at $6.50 per night. Reservation can be made at the Missouri State Parks website.
