The Savanna Portage State Park Campground is a drive-in campground that is located close to Lake Shumway. This campground has a total of 61 sites. There are 18 sites that have electric hookups with a 30-amp service. There are two wheelchair accessible sites which do not have electricity in the campground. The campground is heavily wooded so most of the sites have full shade. Most sites offer privacy with good separation and with trees and thick vegetation between sites.
There is an open grassy play area by the campground that has horse shoe pits and a sandbox. There is also a fishing dock on Lake Shumway nearby. Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. Firewood is available for sale at the park office as well as from private sellers near the park. There are 57 back-in sites and 4 pull-through sites in the campground. Many of the campsites can accommodate RVs up to 55 feet in length. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the campground, except in the restroom.
For campers interested in hiking, the Lake Shumway Trail (a 1.8-mile loop around the lake) is accessible from the campground. There are other park trails that are easy to reach from the campground as well.
The campground has two bathrooms with showers as well as two vault toilets. There is a dump station that serves the campground that is available for use during the warm months. The campground is open year-round, but the bathrooms and access to drinking water is only available during the warm months.
In addition to the camping fees, there is a fee to enter the park; a day use or annual permit can be purchased at the park office. All the sites can be reserved online or by phone. Be aware that campsites for weekend nights get reserved quickly.
