Lookout Mountain

Lookout Mountain in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula provides sweeping views of Victoria Reservoir from a rocky outcropping. To get to Lookout Mountain a 0.4-mile hike on the North Country Trail is required. The trailhead for this hike is located 4.5 miles southwest of Rockland, Michigan on Victoria Dam Road. The North Country Trail crosses Victoria Dam Road 0.7 miles past the Old Victoria Historical Site, which is a restoration of an early mining village. Park on the side of the road and head west on the trail. The trail gains about 140 feet of elevation from the road to Lookout Mountain. Much of the trail has ruts for ATV use. There are plans to reroute the trail to avoid the ATV damage. Once reaching Lookout Mountain, visitors will be afforded lovely views of the Victoria Reservoir. The Victoria Dam, a hydroelectric dam that went into service in 1931, can also be seen from the outcropping.
