Monte Terminillo is situated in the Lazio region of central Italy, and it's part of the Apennines. About 100 kilometers from the city of Rome, it's also known as Rome's Mountain, and it used to be a very popular destination in the 1970s and 1980s.
Partially forgotten because of its low elevation in comparison to other mountains of the Apennine Mountains, it is actually one of the most stunning hiking routes that Central Italy has to offer. The beauty of the scenery is incredible, and the variety of landscapes is absolutely remarkable.
Monte Terminillo reaches the sky at 2,217 meters, and the 8-kilometer hike to its summit leads from Rifugio Sebastiani (where you can leave your car) through Monte Terminillo's summit to Vetta Sassetelli and back.
The hardest section of the trail is the very first one: A very steep uphill leads straight to the top. Then the route starts descending again, allowing for a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains and the beautiful valleys of this area.
Some colorful and furry wildflowers flank the trail if you are there in the spring and summer, and the mountain's towering walls also host some mountaineering routes.
