For an easy and incredibly scenic winter hike, look no further than Trail Creek Road, just past Sun Valley Resort. To access, continue on Sun Valley Road past the resort as it turns into Trail Creek Road. You’ll soon come to the obvious winter road closure where there is an area to park.
From here you’ll set out on foot. This is a very popular winter hike and should be well trampled down, meaning snowshoes are highly unlikely to be needed. Microspikes are the best choice, although also not necessary most of the time.
The trail sets off up the canyon, with stunning views of the high mountains all around you. You’ll soon enter the Sawtooth National Forest.
Along the way the trail crosses some groomed nordic ski trails. Please stay off these as they are for skiers only and require a pass.
You can continue up the canyon for as long as you wish. The further you go the less people are around and the more scenic it gets.
When you’ve had enough, return the way you came back to the trailhead.
