South Tarryall Peak is a mountain located in the Lost Creek Wilderness near Tarryall, CO. This peak is commonly accessed via the Hankins Pass Trail. This out and back hike is 10 miles long and gains 2,782 feet of elevation.

This hike starts from the Spruce Grove Campground Trailhead. There are pit toilets available a short walk from the trailhead. Begin hiking northeast on Spruce Campground Rd. Over the first 0.2 miles, you will pass 2 junctions and go right at both. You will cross a bridge and go left onto Lizard Rock Trail. You will be hiking slightly uphill. After 0.3 miles, you will pass 3 junctions. Stay left at all 3. Another 0.2 miles will bring you to 2 more junctions. Go left at both. Continue down the trail for 0.4 miles before going left at another junction. 0.2 miles down the trail, you will turn right at a junction. The trail continues uphill and steepens a bit. Stay on Lizard Rock Trail for 1 more mile before turning right onto Hankins Pass Trail. 

You will continue to hike uphill, and you will hike amongst coniferous trees. Stay on this trail for 1.5 miles before coming to a junction. Here, you will leave the trail and head south up the slope. There is no trail here, take the path of least resistance while keeping a close eye on your map. After about 1.1 miles of bushwhacking, you will reach the summit of South Tarryall Peak. From the summit, you will have great views of Pikes Peak, Mount Silverheels, and various other peaks. Once you have taken ample time to rest and enjoy the views, turn around and retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.

Lost Creek Wilderness is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but they must be on a leash at all times.
