The Breckenridge Overlook provides a fantastic view down to the town of Breckenridge, backdropped against mountains in the distance. To access the overlook drive up Ski Hill Road where, just past the hairpin turn, you’ll find a small parking lot and the viewpoint.

From the overlook you can see the entire downtown area of Breckenridge. The town sits in a valley bordered by two major faults - the Williams Fork Range Thrust Fault and the Gore Range Frontal Fault.

Gold was found here and prospectors rushed to the valley. Like many mining towns Breckenridge was constructed with a grid of right-angled streets that could be drawn easily on a map.

Although Breckenridge has changed a lot since these early days, you can still imagine what it must’ve been like to be in this town during the mining days while you enjoy the vistas from the overlook.
