Barker Reservoir is located next to the town of Nederland, Colorado. It’s a manmade reservoir that was completed in 1910 and provides water for a hydroelectric power plant, as well as water for the town of Boulder. The Reservoir is named after the original owner of the land, Mrs. Hannah Connell Barker.

There are multiple access points alongside the northern shore of Barker Reservoir. Fishing is a popular activity here when the reservoir isn’t frozen during the winter months. Shoreline fishing is allowed, but boating is not. Swimming is also not allowed as the reservoir provides Boulder with drinking water.

There are several nice areas to picnic with great views of the reservoir, and there is also a hiking trail that parallels the northern shore. The trail can be accessed from multiple points but begins right in downtown Nederland.
